Province “Giustina and Maria Schiapparoli”

83 years old and nearly 66 years of Religious Profession

Sister Gaudenzina (Maria Assunta) was born in Vespolate (Novara – Italy), on August 27, 1938. She met the Benedictine Sisters in her native land, right there where Mother Maria Schiapparoli began her mission at the College of Vespolate. She was from a very religious family and had a priest brother who is currently parish priest in the Diocese of Novara, still very young, she wanted to join the Congregation, but not having reached the right age to join, she decided to wait a bit, While she was waiting, she was visited by our Sisters who lived in her city. In December 20, 1952, she entered the Congregation and was welcomed by Sister Cesarina Simonetti, who by then was the local Superior of the Mother house in Voghera. Her novitiate mistress was Sister Alessandrina Uboldi and Mother Giovanna Zonca was Mother General that time.

She made her Religious Profession on August 15, 1955 in the Chapel of Mother house in Voghera.

Sister Gaudenzine was an affable, friendly and generous person. Very spontaneous in welcoming guests and available to all. For more than ten years she taught in Voghera primary school, and for twenty-eight years she worked in various communities, serving children and students.

From 1997 to 2002 she gave her precious contribution to the Genoa-Pegli community and then, already ill, she was transferred to Salice Terme. After a fall, she had to undergo surgery. This revealed a number of complications to her already weakened physique.

She was welcomed to Mother house’s infirmary for the due care, lovingly cared for by the sisters and staff.

We are grateful to our God for the gift that Sister Gaudenzina was for us and for those who knew her.

The funeral will be celebrated this Tuesday, August 3rd, at 9:45 am in the Chapel of mother house and then the body will be buried in the Cemetery of Voghera.

In fraternal communion of prayer,  We united with all the Sisters of the Province “Giustina and Maria Schiapparoli”, with the relatives, especially with her brother priest, Msgr. Giuseppe Vanzan, and friends, let us give our Sister Gaudenzina to her beloved Husband Jesus.
